French Friday

A French baguette.  Wouldn't you think that every baguette in Paris would be perfect?  We sure did.  Unfornuately, to our suprise they are not.  After a couple of really disappointing purchases we set out to find some answers.   We collected  little bits of information from several different boulangeries and this is what we came up with. To get the really good baguettes, the ones with the crispy crust and the chewy flavorful full of holes baguettes, you have to ask for the "traditional" baguette when stepping up to the counter.  Another give away is that the "good" ones are placed in a paper bag not just a wrapping of paper!
We happily found the boulangerie, La Parisienne, in the 5th arr. that won 2nd best baguette at the 2010 Grand Prix of baguettes in Paris!  So excited to try that tonight on French Friday with our pate de lapin (rabbit) and pastis, an anise flavored liquor from Provence.
