The route of the Grand Chateau, Medoc
Today was a day of Chateau gazing around the Medoc wine region. It is located 30 minutes north of Bordeaux and is home to around 1500 vineyards. Wines from Medoc are red, delicate, medium colored, fine and elegant. And expensive. Some of the finest in the world.
There is a lot of hurried picking going on up here because of the rainy weather setting in. The merlot grape being picked first because of the thin skin makes it more susceptible to rot and mold with all the rain. The cabernet grape has a much thicker skin and can tolerate the weather better. We just tried to stay out of the way and out of trouble!
The next morning we have to zip up our suitcases and bid farewell to our lovely hosts and the very elegant Manior d'Astree. I could have stayed on a few more days enjoying the property and the chocolate crossiants every morning. Michael sure had no problem with that treat! We will be headed to the Dordogne region which is known for its foie gras, truffles and walnuts. Oh my!
